How to Find the Correct Ring Size
A correctly sized ring should feel secure without being uncomfortable. It should slide over the knuckle with slight resistance and sit comfortably at the base of the finger without feeling too tight or turning excessively.

HOW TO MEASURE USING AN EXISTING RING
If you already have a ring that fits the correct finger:

Choose a ring that fits comfortably.

Place it on a flat surface.

Measure the inside diameter across the widest part of the ring.

Measure only the inside of the ring, without including the metal.

Record the measurement in millimetres.

Send us the measurement or bring the ring to our boutique for confirmation.
The ring must fit the same finger and hand on which the new ring will be worn. The fingers on your left and right hands may have different measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FINGER AT HOME
You can obtain an approximate measurement using a narrow strip of paper:

Cut a strip of paper approximately 5 mm wide.

Wrap it around the base of the intended finger.

Make sure it feels comfortable and is not pulled too tightly.

Mark the point where the paper overlaps.

Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimetres.

This measurement is the approximate circumference of your finger.
This method provides only an estimate. Paper, string and household measuring methods can stretch, twist or become too tight, so professional sizing is recommended before ordering a valuable or bespoke ring.
WHEN TO MEASURE YOUR FINGER
Finger size naturally changes during the day.
For a more reliable measurement:
• Measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their normal size.
• Avoid measuring when your hands are unusually cold, as fingers may be smaller.
• Avoid measuring immediately after exercise, hot weather or a very warm shower, as fingers may be swollen.
• Measure two or three times on different days.
• Make sure the measurement can pass comfortably over the knuckle.
If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of your finger, measure both areas. We can help select a size that passes over the knuckle while remaining secure at the base.
WIDER RINGS AND WEDDING BANDS
Wider rings often feel tighter than narrow rings.
If you are choosing a wide wedding band, you may require a slightly larger size than you wear in a narrow ring. The correct adjustment depends on:
• Band width
• Ring profile
• Finger shape
• Knuckle size
• Whether another ring will be worn alongside it
We recommend measuring your finger using a sample band with a similar width and profile to the ring you intend to purchase.
ENGAGEMENT RINGS AND WEDDING BANDS WORN TOGETHER
If an engagement ring and wedding band will be worn together, the combined width may feel tighter than either ring worn separately.
Try both rings together wherever possible. A very close-fitting wedding band may also affect how the engagement ring sits, so size, profile and design should be considered together.
SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT RINGS
If the ring is a surprise, you can:
• Borrow a ring worn on the correct finger.
• Measure its inside diameter.
• Ask a trusted friend or family member.
• Bring the borrowed ring to our Hatton Garden boutique.
• Compare the wearer’s finger with someone whose ring size is known.
Avoid measuring a ring worn on a different finger, as the size may be significantly different.
UK RING SIZES
UK ring sizes are normally shown using letters, including half sizes such as K½, L½ or M½.
International sizes use different systems. A conversion chart can provide an estimate, but conversions may vary slightly between manufacturers. We recommend confirming the final UK size before production begins.
RING PROFILE AND FIT
The inside shape of a ring can affect how it feels.
Traditional Fit
A flatter internal surface offering a classic fit.
Comfort Fit
A gently rounded internal surface that can feel easier to slide over the knuckle, particularly on wider bands.
Two rings marked with the same size may feel slightly different because of their width, depth, profile and weight.
CAN EVERY RING BE RESIZED?
Many rings can be resized, but the amount of adjustment depends on the design, metal, setting and position of any diamonds or gemstones.
Rings that may require special consideration include:
• Full eternity rings
• Rings with stones around most of the band
• Highly detailed or engraved bands
• Tension settings
• Certain alternative metals
• Rings requiring a large size adjustment
